The Better Way

I had a plan carved out in stone,

Each step rehearsed, each seed my own.

I mapped the road, I named the prize,

And crowned myself as strong and wise.

But quiet whispers stirred my chest,

A holy pull that would not rest,

“Not by your will, nor by your sight,

But trust the path I’ve set aright.”

I wrestled hard with yielding ground,

For pride speaks loud, and grace is soundless found.

My hands held tight to what I knew,

While heaven called me to something new.

To do it God’s way – costly, slow,

Where faith must walk where sight won’t go.

Where answers wait and silence leads,

And strength is born from dying needs.

I feared the loss of my control,

Yet felt His hand upon my soul.

“Release,” He said, “what you defend,

My way will hold you to the end.”

So I unclenched what I held dear,

Let fall the weight of doubt and fear.

And in that space, so stripped and bare,

I found His will already there.

His way was not the path I drew,

But every step proved firm and true.

What I called loss became my gain,

What I called death broke every chain.

Now I don’t rush to take the lead,

I pause to listen, pray, and heed.

For hearts made strong are those that bend,

And trust His way from start to end.
