Better Than Before

“Better Than Before”

Yesterday stood face to face,

A mirror I could not erase,

It showed me flaws I could not hide,

The hurried steps, the wounded pride.

Some words I spoke were not well weighed,

Some choices rushed, some debts unpaid,

Yet I refused to turn away,

I let it teach me for today.

For morning brings a chance to mend,

To sharpen will, to rightly tend,

What I ignored or handled wrong,

I now correct, I now make strong.

What I rushed through, I now take slow,

What I lacked care in, now I grow,

No need to cover or defend,

I learn, adjust, and then ascend.

There is no shame in honest sight,

When wrong is faced and turned to right,

For growth is born where truth is known,

And wisdom claimed becomes our own.

So I will guard the words I say,

And test my thoughts throughout the day,

Examine motives deep inside,

Where truth and discipline abide.

Progress is quiet, firm, and sure,

Not loud, but steady to endure,

A daily gain, though small it seems,

Builds stronger faith and sharper dreams.

And when the evening calls me in,

I’ll measure loss, I’ll measure win,

Not perfect – no, but closer still

To mastering heart, and mind, and will.

Then tomorrow comes, and I restore

The work I started days before,

Determined, faithful to improve,

A better man, with each right move.
