Song: “Therapy (Patient’s Perspective) by Midnight Echoes Soundz
Good morning, and welcome to Starting the Day Together—just a few minutes to help us get the day started in the right direction.
Here’s something I want you to carry with you today: You can’t change everybody’s perspective.
We spend a lot of time trying to get people to see things the way we see them.
We explain ourselves.
We give them the facts.
We tell them what really happened.
We try to help them understand our intentions
And sometimes, after we’ve said everything we know to say, they still see it differently.
And that can be frustrating.
But here’s what we sometimes forget: people don’t see life only through their eyes.
They see life through their experiences.
Their perspective may have been shaped by how they were raised.
By what they’ve been through.
By people who disappointed them.
By relationships that hurt them.
By lessons they learned years ago.
By fears they may never have told anybody about.
All of that can become a lens through which they see the world.
So when you’re talking to somebody, you may think you’re simply discussing what happened today.
But they may be responding to something that happened ten years ago.
You’re talking about the present, while their perspective is being influenced by the past.
And one conversation may not be able to change that.
That’s why we have to learn that understanding someone’s perspective is not the same thing as agreeing with it.
You can understand why somebody sees something a certain way without accepting their conclusion.
And you can disagree with someone without making it your personal mission to change their mind.
Proverbs 18:2 says: “A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion.”
Sometimes wisdom says, I’ve said what I needed to say.
I’ve listened to what you needed to say.
We still see it differently—and that’s okay.
Because every disagreement doesn’t require another argument.
Every misunderstanding doesn’t require another explanation.
And every opinion about you doesn’t require your correction.
There comes a point when you have to stop trying to manage how everybody sees you.
Somebody may misunderstand you.
Somebody may misinterpret your intentions.
Somebody may walk away with a perspective that you believe is completely wrong.
But if you know that you have spoken truthfully, acted honorably, and treated them with respect, sometimes you simply have to let them have their perspective.
Because here is the question for today:
How much peace are you willing to give up trying to change a perspective that you may not have the power to change?
You can speak truth.
You can listen.
You can clarify.
You can apologize when you’re wrong.
You can try to understand.
But after you have done those things, you have to recognize where your responsibility ends.
Romans 12:18 says: “If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.”
I love those words: “so far as it depends on you.”
In other words, do your part.
But understand that you cannot do somebody else’s part for them.
You cannot force understanding.
You cannot force agreement.
And you cannot force somebody to see through your eyes when their entire life has taught them to look through a different lens.
So today, don’t spend all of your energy trying to change everybody else’s perspective.
Listen.
Try to understand.
Speak the truth in love.
And then give people the freedom to see things differently.
Sometimes maturity is not finally convincing someone that you’re right.
Sometimes maturity is being able to say: “We see this differently, and I can still walk away in peace.”
Remember, you are responsible for your words, your actions, your attitude, and your heart.
You are not responsible for controlling everybody’s perspective.
So go into today with a little more patience, a little more understanding, and maybe a little less need to convince.
Some perspectives will change with time.
Some will change through experience.
Some God Himself will have to change.
And some may never change at all.
But don’t lose your peace trying to do what was never yours to do.
Have a blessed day—and remember:
You can’t change everybody’s perspective, but you can always choose the perspective you carry into today.
