“Don’t Be Afraid to Ask Questions”

A Short Bible Lesson on Curiosity, Wisdom, and Breakthrough

Introduction

Many people remain stuck, confused, or defeated—not because answers don’t exist, but because they never ask the question.

Fear, pride, insecurity, or embarrassment often keep people silent.

Yet throughout Scripture, God consistently responds to those who seek, inquire, and ask.

Curiosity is often the beginning of revelation.

Questions can become the doorway to wisdom, understanding, healing, and breakthrough.

As believers, we should never be afraid to ask questions—especially when seeking truth, wisdom, and direction from God.

Key Scripture

Matthew 7:7-8

“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asks receives…”

Jesus teaches a progression:

  • Ask
  • Seek
  • Knock

This shows initiative, persistence, and curiosity. God honors sincere inquiry.

  1. Questions Are Often the Beginning of Wisdom

Proverbs 4:7 – “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom…”

Wisdom is not automatic. It must be pursued.

People who ask questions:

  • Learn faster
  • Avoid unnecessary mistakes
  • Grow spiritually and emotionally
  • Gain understanding others overlook

A person who refuses to ask questions may remain trapped in ignorance.

Illustration

A student sitting silently in class may leave confused—not because the teacher refused to help, but because the student never asked for clarification.

Many believers suffer spiritually the same way.

  1. God Invites Us to Ask Questions

James 1:5 – “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God…”

God does not rebuke sincere seekers of wisdom.

Sometimes people think asking questions shows weakness.

In reality, asking questions often demonstrates humility and hunger for growth.

Important Point

God would rather answer an honest question than deal with arrogant assumptions.

  1. Jesus Encouraged Questions

Jesus frequently answered questions throughout His ministry.

People asked Him:

  • About salvation
  • Faith
  • Prayer
  • Eternity
  • Forgiveness
  • Leadership
  • The Kingdom of God

Even His disciples regularly asked questions privately when they did not understand His teachings.

Mark 4:10 – “…they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable.”

The disciples became effective because they were willing to ask when they did not understand.

One Question Can Change Your Life

 Blind Bartimaeus Asked for Mercy

 Mark 10:46-52

Bartimaeus cried out to Jesus despite opposition.

Jesus asked: “What wilt thou that I should do unto thee?”

Bartimaeus responded specifically: “Lord, that I might receive my sight.”

Because he spoke up and asked, his life changed.

Lesson: Some people miss blessings because they never clearly ask God for what they need.

Fear Stops Many People From Asking

 Common fears:

 “I might sound ignorant.”

  • “People may judge me.”
  • “I should already know this.”
  • “What if I ask the wrong thing?

But silence can be more dangerous than temporary embarrassment.

A person lost on the road may drive farther away from the destination simply because pride prevented them from asking directions.

Spiritually, emotionally, and relationally, many people remain lost for the same reason.

 Breakthrough Begins With Curiosity

 Curiosity opens doors:

 Curiosity leads to discovery.

  • Discovery leads to understanding.
  • Understanding leads to growth.
  • Growth leads to breakthrough.

The woman with the issue of blood wondered: “If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.” (Mark 5:28)

Her faith caused her to pursue an answer—and her pursuit produced healing.

 Practical Application

 Encourage listeners to:

 Ask God for wisdom daily.

  1. Ask questions when studying Scripture.
  2. Seek understanding instead of pretending.
  3. Ask experienced believers for guidance.
  4. Never allow fear or pride to silence growth.

 Closing Thought

Questions are not signs of weakness; they are signs of hunger.

Some of the greatest breakthroughs in life begin with simple questions:

 “Lord, teach me.”

  • “Why is this happening?”
  • “What must I do?”
  • “How can I grow?”
  • “What does Your Word say?”

A closed mouth may remain empty, but a seeking heart often finds answers.

Closing Scripture

Jeremiah 33:3 – “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”

God promises revelation to those willing to ask.
