Song: ”Jesus Will Work It Out” by Sonya Davis

“Now there was a famine in the land…” – Genesis 26:1

Good morning.

Here is a question for us today: We will all experience famines in our lives.

What will you do when yours comes?

A famine is a season of scarcity.

In the Bible, it meant a shortage of food, water, and resources.

But there are other kinds of famines.

You can experience a financial famine, when the money is not enough.

You can experience a relational famine, when people you counted on are no longer there.

You can experience an emotional famine, when joy seems scarce and discouragement is plentiful.

You can even experience a spiritual famine, when God seems quiet and you are waiting for direction.

Genesis 26 tells us that Isaac experienced a famine.

His natural instinct could have been to leave and go somewhere that looked more promising.

But God told him, “Do not go down to Egypt; dwell in the land of which I shall tell you.”

That teaches us something important: Don’t let your famine make your decisions for you.

Let God direct you in your famine.

Fear will tell you, Run.

Frustration will tell you, Quit.

Circumstances will tell you, Nothing can grow here.

But God may tell you,

Stay.

Trust Me.

Keep sowing.

And that is exactly what Isaac did.

Genesis 26:12 says:

“And Isaac sowed in that land and reaped in the same year a hundredfold. The LORD blessed him.”

Notice those words: “in that land.

Isaac did not wait until the famine was over to sow. He sowed during the famine.

Sometimes faith means continuing to plant when your circumstances tell you nothing can grow.

Keep praying when you don’t see the answer.

Keep serving when nobody seems to notice.

Keep giving when resources are tight.

Keep believing when the evidence looks unfavorable.

Keep obeying when you don’t understand what God is doing.

The famine does not mean God has abandoned you.

Sometimes the famine becomes the very place where God teaches you that your source was never the land—your source was always Him.

So when famine comes and eventually some form of famine comes to all of us don’t just ask, “How do I get out of this?”

Ask, “Lord, what do You want me to do while I’m in it?”

Because if God tells you to sow in a famine, then sow.

If He tells you to stay, stay.

If He tells you to move, move.

But whatever you do, don’t allow scarcity to speak louder than God.

Thought for Today

Your famine may change your circumstances, but it does not change your God.

So the question is not whether famine will come.

The question is: What will you do when it happens?

Have a blessed morning—and keep trusting God, even in the famine.
